My " friend" has bought a Husky.

My friend has gone and bought a beautiful husky pup. Both she and her partner work very long hours. She drives everywhere, even to the corner shop as she detests walking. They have 3 young grandchildren who often stay with them on the weekend.

Now I'm no expert on dog's but I do know that huskies are extremely hard work to maintain. Someone I know had 2, and although she was very dedicated to them and an experienced dog keeper, she vowed never to have one again as they needed 3 long walks a day; extensive and on going training and an endless supply of vacuum cleaners ( they moult like no other dog) .

Now my friend and her partner are clean freaks; their ( small) house is spotless, and the garden is small.

I have to add that before she was with her current partner she had a series of dogs; none of which stayed with her for long before being sent to the local dog rescue centre.

She has posted this " happy" event on facebook. I am at a loss to comment, I am so bloody angry that she has chosen to get such a pet. I feel for the poor little thing. I can only think that someone she knows has recently purchased a fancy breed of dog and she want's to go one better ( as she has done in the past with cars/ motorbikes etc, etc)

What should I say to convince her that she has made an awful mistake before this poor puppy ends up at some dodgy "rescue" centre or worse; sold to some dimwit who is clueless about dogs?

Not sure there is much you can do - she sounds pretty darn stupid if she has previously had and re-homed other dogs and yet still acquires more. How can you hope to penetrate that level of stupidity

I have had a Husky. I took him for walks that were 5 hours long and he still had energy.

Meticulous housekeepers may not be happy owning a Siberian. These dogs shed a lot and have a reputation for destructive behavior. Much of this reputation is undeserved, but it's fair to warn you that if an extremely clean house is very important to you, owning a Siberian will add stress to your existence.

Exercise. Siberians need a lot of exercise — every day. If you want a Husky, you need to be willing to provide your pet with the high level of activity he requires to keep him happy and healthy. These activities can include regular jogging, playing, swimming, or best of all, sledding. One Husky can keep several members of the family in top condition. Be honest with yourself about how much exercise you can give your dog. If you're not willing or able to give your dog a lot of attention, consider a breed with lower activity-level needs.

I am asking myself the same question, it's like she has to "outdo" everyone. She can't for example buy a new fridge , it has to be a walk in jobbie, yet she reminds me that 20 odd years ago I paid ( in instalments) £500 for a beautiful painting ( which I still love and is worth a few grand now, not that I'm ever going to sell it) I earn a fraction of what she earns, but the thing is, this puppy deserves a dedicated owner. I love dog's but I don't have the time/ finances/ space to have one. I accept that my cat is ample for my lifestyle.

I have a friend who, not 3 months ago was all 'omg, why do people get rid of animals, they're for life' who is now trying to rehome her dog (unsuccessfully) and her two horses(!) as she realised having two kids takes up a large chunk of time My eyes hurt from all the rolling

I like a lot of things, but being a hard working single mother of a teenager, I think I have to get things into perspective.
I'd like a world cruise but my son will be going to uni soon and I'll have to part fund his education.

I have had issues with my " friend" on and off for years. she is clever ,fun, generous, but also inclined to wonder why I ever liked her. I feel bad about that. I know nobody is perfect, non of my friends are, but this really riles me.
