My cat has died. What do I do?

Neighbour knocked this morning to say he thought one of my cats (we have/had 2) was dead on the drive of next door.
In pjs and slippers I went and looked and it was

He's been very kind and put him Ina box in his garage for now as I don't know what to do.

Dh away though may be able to come back tonight - couldn't get him on the phone for ages. He thinks he'll bury him in the garden.

I'm so sad. Haven't told the DC yet as I'm only just holding it together. Done sch runs but have dd for a bit longer until I go to work.

Think he just died. Not run over or anything horrible. I have him his treats as usual at bedtime last night.

I'm sorry JKS it's very sad.
It would probably help the children to have some sort of funeral and a chance to see him and say goodbye, provided he is not obviously injured.
Your options are either to bury him in the garden (making sure it's a deep hole and something planted or placed on top, especially if you have foxes about) or to contact either your vet or the local pet crematorium, which you'd find by googling or Yellow Pages, to arrange cremation. They should offer either communal cremation (together with other pets, no return of ashes) or an individual cremation with return of ashes in a casket or scatter tube.

I made a tit of myself in H&M when I bawled at the shop lady. Luckily she is a cat lover and was sympathetic!

Dh has spoken to the vet and they'll cremate him for us. And he thinks he can get home tonight.

Have come into work to try and keep busy - being at home I keep thinking he'll come in any second.

I cried all over a complete stranger at the park after my dog died. Making a tit of yourself is part of the grieving process...

Have a good cry with your family, give the cat a decent send off in some form or other (children might want to make a memory box if you are not having a burial?) share some memories of happy times, weep over the photos a bit, then start to feel better.
