Something wrong with my dogs foot

He is a 12 year old Yorkie that suffers with skin problems (he is allergic to fleas and pollen!)

Well since Sunday night he has been bothered by his foot. He keeps licking it or biting it. We have had a look and can't see anything wrong. I bathed it in salt water but he still licked it constantly. He has horrid breath, really really bad. I'm convinced he is doing more harm to it by licking it rather than keeping it clean. Is it something he needs to go to the vets for or should I keep bathing it in salt water?

Kid,

My sisters cocker does this to his foot and it is excma (sp?). Check it all over as there is a possibility he has something in it.

If you cant find a cause I would take him to the vets though. Especially if he is doing his foot damage by biting it.

could it be a seed or something very small stuck in teh foot?

We have had a good look at it, he is trying to get between the toes. There did llok like a small hole there (tiny hole) but DH said it was just from him licking it and the hair coming out. All the hair from that part of his foot has gone now.

Possibly excema, possibly an interdigital cyst, possibly some foreign object.

In any event, the dog licking it/gnawing at it will rapidly make it sore and inflamed. Best by far to get it to the vet and get a proper diagnosis and treatment before it gets nasty.

I think you sjould take him to teh vet for a check - many yrs ago my dog had a thorn in his foot, as CD suggested and he had to have his foot cut open to get it out

Ok, thanks for the advice, looks like a 2nd trip to the vets for us. We were their last night to have my uncles poor dog put down
