heat rash on dogs....

my dog has gone bald in her hind legs inside at the top (in a line where her last twon nipples are) she is scratching and biting the area....

She is suffering witht he heat and for the last two months has only beeen going outside early to late evening so she doesnt burn her paws (we live in cyprus). In the day she is int he front room under the fans and by the aircon unit.

Do you thin this is heat rash. I am taking her to the Vets next week when DH gets back...

What kind of dog is she? I had a Shih Tzu who would get like that. It turned out that she had terrible allergies in the summer. Steroids were the only thing that would help. The shots seemed to be too much for her, though, so we did tablets instead.

HI she is an American Akita, I have jsut got back from the vets with her, she has a skin infection, she has been given two injections of antibiotics and put on a weeks supply of tablets. I have also been given some special shampoo for her. Thanks for your reply.

Poor thing, I'll bet the tablets have some steroids to calm things down. She should be feeling better very quickly.
