How are your pets coping in this heat?

My 2 cats have been totally flaked out for the past few days, and aren't eating anything. Is everyone else finding there pets are suffering? Plus any tips to make them more comfortable?

My poor Persian! I call him a 'Fursian'. I wet him last night in the shower and I think he felt better for it.

They are both sleeping in a cool, dark cupboard.

Offer them lots of shade and water.

i've covered the rabbit hutches completely with soaking wet towels, poor things, naturally they would be underground

Our cat just disappears off to find somewhere really cool to crash out -think shes under DDs cabin bed at the moment.

I've really noticed the difference because normally she follows me round from mid-afternoon onwards hassling me for food.

Shes also going out last thing at night when normally shes just settling down for a night on the sofa. Trouble is we then have to let her in at some ridiculous hour

Oh yep the molting thing is driving me crazy too. They are both black and white so it shows up on all colours.

Going to have to start taking remedial measures with the fish soon - the water in their tank is up at 29C - at around 30C air stops dissolving in the water quite as efficiently, so getting a bit twitchy.

They seem happy enough swimming about though, so hopefully not too stressed by the heat (and they get to paddle all the time )

My cat is flaked out completely. Still eating though. Sppends all morning under dd's cabin bed and the latter part of the day on the kitchen floor.

My dogs get walked before it gets too hot (crack of dawn at the moment... yawn) but then just mooch around in the shade and sleep... I soak an old towel in cold water, wring it out a bit and they seem to like lying on that. They also like to crunch up ice cubes. Not sure if cats would enjoy any of that though!

mines in his run at home, with 2 bowls of water and luckily his kennel and run are in the shade! sure he's doing fine........ill chk when i get home!

MY 2 JRT puppies are galloping round the garden atm!
They are sleeping, drinking and appetite is still good!

Can't say I've noticed much difference with my cat. But then all he does in general is sleep (he's an oldie) and my flat is relatively cool. The only thing that has been a pain is that his uneaten food (he is very fussy) gets fly eggs in it within hours. I went on a course last week with an over night stay and left him with a small amount of food when I went (he also has dry cat food). When our nanny brought the kids back after school the next day his dish was full of maggots!

I've been out spraying all of mine with a plant mister spray, even the cat and the bantams love it.

When I went to the pet shop this week noticed that they had frozen water bottles in all the small animal cages so have done this for our bunny and guinea pig - when I went to check on them earlier the bunny was asleep with her head on the bottle! Bless! Am trying to put ice in their water bottles too but its not easy.

Also have stolen parasol from patio table and put it in front of their hutch.

Have two skinks (lizards) so they don't mind the weather really.

Our dog has been sleeping a bit more I think but hes actually enjoying the sun. He lays in it for a while and then finds a shady spot.
If he gets too hot I hose him down though

Probably not so great for cats! You could try a damp cloth on them and ice cubes in their water bowls.

arfur - i've just put two icy blocks into our rabbit hutches, they are sitting on them! ta for great idea!

dog thinks he's a little flower! digs a nice cool patch in the flower bed with just his head peeping out between the bushes - Bless!

Other times I've had to drag him inside where its cooler cos I've found him lying on the concrete in full sun panting frantically - bonkers dog!
