Is anyone looking for a pair of rabbits?

I have to rehome. the rescue where I got my lovely bunnies have said that they will take them back as it's not my fault- but it means a very long journey on buses, tube, trains and a taxi for the rabbits (3-4hrs) so I'm trying to find a new home for them locally as the journey is likely to stress them out.

I have had zero response to ads on gumtree, preloved and facebook sites, I think as they are 6 years old and half wild (but fully domesticated now!). It's so sad. I don't want them to sit in a hutch in a rescue for the rest of their days :(

So honestly, if anyone would like a pair of fully bonded very sociable children-friendly bunnies in the Surrey/London area please let me know.

You tried to get rid of animals on Gumtree???

Take them back to the rescue where they will be properly cared for.

I didn't try to 'get rid' i tried to rehome them - I would have visited the homes and checked the prospective owners knowledge and would have charged to ensure that they weren't going for dog fights etc. and I did this in conversation with the rescue because a 4 hour journey is certainly not in their best interests.

The rescue are also doubtful of if they can be given proper care, they doubt that they would be able to rehome them, and will only be able to give them 1 or 2 hours exercise every day whereas they are used to 24 hour access to a run. So I was hoping somebody else would be able to offer them to same care and accommodation that they currently have.

If a local home cannot be found by Sunday then they will be making the journey, I certainly wouldn't offer them to anyone who could provide less than the rescue.

I am honestly not the sort of person who needs a lecture on animals on gumtree - I know, honestly I do. I am a complete animal/pet rights freak and have given the rabbits above and beyond normal accommodation in the past. I adopted the rabbits in the corner who nobody else wanted from the rescue but unfortunately my new landlords insurance has decided that the insurance is invalid if there are pets - even if they are only housed outside. It was something that could not have been predicted, and my family have been homeless after having to leave an unsafe house. The rabbits are very much part of the family, but I have to put a home for my human family before the rabbits on this occasion.

Could you have them fostered somewhere?

Morden, that's an interesting idea - how would I go about finding a fosterer? Advertising in the same sort of places?

I would ask local rescues about it, I know they sometimes organise for people with long term illnesses etc.

Or you could arrange privately I suppose.

Are they vaccinated etc? I already have 2, but in desperate times could perhaps help temporarily. How long do you think you would be in this accom?

Thank you crotchetkate - that's very kind of you, unfortunately they are 2 months behind in their vaccs as we've had a lot of upheaval and a bad summer. We've only just signed the contract so will be here at least a year, and ideally longer as we've already moved twice this year.

I will contact local rescues about fostering or adoption. If it comes to Sunday they will still go back to their old rescue though.
