Pets & Holidays etc

We have been thinking about getting a pet (guinea pigs) for about 18 months. The only problem is that we are so busy at weekends, school hol, visiting friends etc that I don't know when would be a good time or whether we just aren't gonna ever get round to having one. Not sure if we will have the time to devote to a pet, and the constant change/lack of routine might not be the best environment for a happy pet. Have got a few friends who might have pet while we are away, but to be honest that would be most weekends.

Has anyone a similar lifestyle and did you just bite the bullet and get a pet in the end?

We have 3 Guinea pigs - they are lovely, but they really need feeding every day, so might not be the best thing if you're away a lot. We leave the hamster for up to 3 days with a store of food, so how about one of those? However, any pet is a responsibility and takes time, care and commitment, not to mention occasional vet's bills - so I would say if you have any doubts - don't do it!

Not what I wanted to hear but I guess I'm not going to be Mrs Dolittle afterall!

Maybe just maybe, someone else might like to tell me that they have hundreds of pets and don't spend any evening or weekend at home!

nope sorry. I have two dogs, two cats and two goldfish, and although family look after them when I go on holiday, animals really are a tie and if you go away a lot it wouldn't really be fair to have them.

Oh alright then! (Tantrum)

Sorry, I think I agree, if you are a going away person then lack of pets is part of the price you pay for that IMO!

Unless you went for a pet that dosn't care if you are there or not as long as someone feeds it - like a Snake? or stick insects

No, no, I'll accept no pets for Patttsy

Maybe when I'm old and grey though...
