Jack Russells yes or no?

Want a JR for size and personality
I have found one that is 2 yrs old, spayed, housetrained, and used to lots of very small kids and I have seen her she is a saintly little dog.
Anyone any experience of these as family dogs?

I thought they could be a bit grumpy. I remember one as a kid taht I was quite scared of. (we had a dog ourselves so I wasn't generally scared of them) Not sure if that was really cos of the dog or because the owners always seemed nervous of it being around kids.

they can be fantastic and loads of fun

but they ae terriers and therriers sometimes like to nip

if she is used to kids, i'd certainly give it a tery- thye are lots of fun and very very clevr and charming

We have a year old male.He is lovely but grumpy!
I think he gets anxious sometimes and he barks at people.but he is just nervy.He has small mans syndrome,thinks he is a rottweiler.
He is great tho and the one you are thinking of having sounds lovely..and if she is used to being around kids thats good.

cool sounding like a good idea then!
She is very small, I want her to chase the cats who shit in my garden (incl our own lol)
WE have a good size totally fenced in garden, can easily pen off an outside run and kennel for her to be outside sometimes when we're not around, or she can sleep in the kitchen, prob contained until I know she doesn't demolish the kitchen overnight when left on her own.

We have scooby (now 4) he's a naughty boy, still thinks he's a puppy, but where the kids are concerned we couldnt ask for a better dog, ds (16 mnths) rolls around all over him, kisses him, hugs him, chases him and scoob takes it all in his stride.

Cant recommend jackies enough

We have a jr that's called Scooby too!

It's a pain to be truthful, is never still or tired even though it walks for miles. Very much still a puppy despite being 6 now and is not a dog that you can relax with at all.

I certainly wouldn't have another (it was actually my dp's choice and although I don't say the 'i told you so' he knows it's there!)

Also I HATE yapping dogs and ours is. Argh!

My Dad is an ex-policeman -he hates JRs as he got bitten by more than one during his time in the force!

He said of all the animals, big and small, he'd come face to face with JRs were by far the worst (and as he covered a part-rural area he visited a lot of farm and countryside incidents).

Well today went to "collect" the lovely older spayed kindly bitch we'd seen.
Last tiem we saw her at owners mothers house in the garden with the kids
Today saw at owners house#
OMG yeah great with kids, yeah but CHEW and I mean decimated. she was left on her own a lot!!!!!!!! the house was trashed so I refused her.
But I did go and then see my 2nd choice of JR's which are9 wk old puppies
There were 3 boys one wiry haired two short haired - tan and white
One SH was very bold and assertive, the wire was very over timid and hid behind the desk!
The 3rd came and sat on dd's (3.5)lap and fell asleep
She christened him Doodles (I think thats the Tweenies dogs name is it?)
He is gorgeous....
Pic tomorrow as we're bringing him home then

ds wants Ozzy - I want Nelson after that gorgeous wonderful horse who was destroyed after the Derby last weekend

get the one with the most character rather than a timid one.

And you have to call him scooby to make it a hat-trick (how weird all those jackies being called scoob)

Yep I did not want the really brazen assertive one, the one that was happy enough to come over and settle did for us... It actually was a really special moment for dd, her size and everything :)

i really wouldn't have jack russells in a house with small children. they really can't be trusted, and they go for the face, lock on, and cause a lot of damage.

We know quite a few people with JRs and they all put them away when small children are around - unasked!

We're gett Scooby Doodles a crate so he can have somewhere safe to hide away from the kids, tbh my kids are both pretty calm creatures (touch wood) hopefully by buying a puppy we will know his personality well enough
But we will be cautious and watchful
