Insect as pet for DS (6)

DS is bug obsessed and wants a bug as a pet, I suggested a stick insect, he is keen on that idea, only thing that worries me is with buying eggs, is that we will hav a few, would only like one or two bth, what to do with any spare?

And other buggy type pets to concider?

Sorry I don't know personally, but I'd perhaps go to any local pet shop
Try to choose a time when they are quiet
Ask them for advice
Our local independent pet shop are always happy to give advice and chat to the children about pet care, even if we're only spending a few pounds
Also get a few books from the library for tips regarding care

Spare stick insects escape and crawl around the house and on your clothes and then you turn around as a 13 year old when your 6 year old brother keeps them and find one ON YOUR SHOULDER LOOKING YOU IN THE EYE! AAAGGGHHHHHHH

They still give me the creeps today...

But they're probably an ideal pet for him.

I breed stick insects. Not all the eggs hatch out and some take longer than others. You can buy nymphs online but buying eggs is way cheaper. What species are you thinking of?

Some specialist reptile stores sell beetles as pets. I also keep tarantulas and they make good pets too.

Brought two breeds on line, Dia 'something' gigantica and some leaf insects, both nymphs, he decided against the eggs as he is too impatient to wait!

Unfortunately, the local reptile shop only had land snails, which he wasn't interested in (I would have preferred though!)

He did want a spider, but I'm terrified of them, so vetoed it
