For some reason dh told our five year old he can get goldfish. Did he research the needs of goldfish and check we had space for a decent tank, or could afford all the equipment etc? No of course not Hmm
Now I had fish in a plastic bowl as a child but I knew no better.
Is there any other pet I could get that would be very low-maintenance, yet could live a content existence? I have a five year old and a almost one year old, in a small flat. Dh is allergic to cats, and I am scared of snakes.
Suppose I could always put dh in a hutch in the garden..
Any advice would be welcome!

I kept Giant African Land Snails in my class last year (inherited from a teacher who left). Clean water daily, change soil monthly, feed lettuce, cucumber, etc, cuttlefish in tank.

Remove eggs & freeze them to prevent babies.

I have no idea where they came from but they were low maintenance. Big enough to hold ( size of adult palm). The children seemed to love them.

Thanks for further ideas Smile Have googled spiders and giant snails - think I would prefer those to stay outside the house, sorry! (There's not much logic to which animals we'd like as pets is there?)
I think will order spider monkeys, will see if can con ds into thinking they are fish, or persuade him these are much cooler (I think Ben 10 had a Spidermonkey character?)

Yaaay Grin I'm genuinely chuffed!
Presuming you mean seamonkeys not spidermonkeys Shock.

They are great fun and really educational.

They used to do really cool starter packs with them.

Hope he likes!!

And they are cool - how many pets do you get to bring to life?'
