We have a springer spaniel - lovely dog, has withstood his ears being put into hair bobbles by dds amongst many other discomforts, without so much as a grimace.

But he stinks - not dog breath, but just his coat I reckon - it's not unusually offensive or anything but he just has a smell of kennels about him. I really worry that our house smells of dog (yuk).

So is there any way to minimise the smell? We're gonna have him shorn soon so hopefully that will help, but are there any other tricks?

bath him? pet shops also sell deoderants, but not sure on whether they are such a great idea or not.

The occasional bath is no bad thing (just done our hound this weekend...) Keep their bedding clean too if you can.....

no mroe than abotu once a month I don't think, or willc ause fur and skin problems. Brushing lots should mean you don't need to bath more than that.

Can get shampoo from the vet that helps too....basically don't want to take too much oil out of the coat.....

Get his ears checked too. Cause they're floppy they might be harbourin some nasty bugs that can make dogs smell more doggy.

Agree with Stylish, we had a springer and he also stank. Spaniels often have ear problems because no air gets into their ears and they can get really grotty. We used to have to clean our springers ears and we also had drops. My friend had one too and he also smelt, they are also prone to skin complaints such as exzema which can also pong. Ours was a total wreck by the end Sad
