Kitten Wants to go outside

My kitten (about 5 months) has started crying to go out and I'm really just not sure how to go about it, I'm going to let him in the garden tomorrow (supervised) just not not sure how to go about it when he us by himself.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as he is my first kitten

Has he been neutered yet?

My girl kitten of the same age is desperate to go outside, but the answer has to be 'No!', not until the op is over and all is healed!
