Watch a prog last night that talked about therapy dogs and it made me wonder does anyone on MN do work with one? It all sounded really interesting.

I provide vet care to several PAT dogs, a clutch of guide dogs, a couple of hearing dogs and in the past the most wonderful dog for the disabled. All these dogs provide therapy in some form or other and change the lives of the people they touch. The dog for the disabled changed his owner's life as through him meet her husband - god bless you Rowan your life was short, but very very worthwhile.

That sounds like amazing work. Could you explain what PAT dogs are? Please excuse me if thats a stupid question, didn't want to assume they are dogs you pat Smile

I don't work with them, but I knew someone with a hearing dog. A very cute, slightly naughty Cocker Spaniel I think it was, because my friend was partially deaf, she would tell her if there was a fire alarm, oven alarm or any other alarm, and if someone called her, and she was upstairs, or wasn't facing them so couldn't lip read, she'd go and paw at her to tell her. Very clever little dog, incredibly well trained and could save her life one day (if there was a fire alarm or something).
