Friend visiting with dog - we have one too! Advice please

Pretty much as the title says, really. We have an 8 year old male Golden Retriever who is bouncy and friendly with people, but has had no contact with other dogs. My friend is coming to stay overnight and they have an older greyhound/cross bitch who has had contact with other dogs, but is quite placid and getting on a bit.

Not quite sure how to proceed. We thought about introducing the dogs whilst on leads and let them get to know each other and then take it from there.

Are there any possible pitfalls that anybody can think of? Are male dogs likely to attack or be aggressive to bitches? I'd hate anything unpleasant to happen. Our dog can be a bit growly when he encounters other dogs when out walking, but hasn't attempted any attacks or anything. It's quite a different thing, of course, having a strange dog come into his territory.

Grateful for any thoughts or advice.

I've done all sorts introducing dogs and never had a bother, but never had a problem dog either that might warrant special meeting and greeting sanctions!

I'd meet them outside or even on a walk, and then all back home together, saves the visitor having to invade the home territory iyswim?
There may be a little bit of bickering as they sort themselves out...pretty much like kids.

And I'd police feeding times quite rigorously as some dogs don't approve of company when they are eating.

I'd imagine from the dogs that we meet out and about that your visitor will have very set manners and will put your boy in his place smartly if he tries to show off. :D

Thanks, Catsmamma, that's reassuring! I should think they'll be fine - we'll just keep an eye on them. You've hit the nail on the head about our dog showing off Grin; that's exactly what he's like!
