(Pionus) parrot keeping

Can anyone recommend me any good introductory books to keeping parrots and / or a parrot keepers forum? A family friend is hoping to move into a care home this winter and she can't take her parrot with her but would like him to move in with someone she can visit. She has basically explained what he eats etc and he will be coming with his current cage, so I don't feel like I can go too far wrong but it would be nice to be sure.
He is a 15 ish year old Pionus parrot if that makes any difference.

My brother is very into parrots Grin So I know a little, but I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon.

My first thought was are you sure you know what you are taking on? Parrots can live a really long time so it is quite a big commitment, they need time out to play and interact every day, including when you want to go away and it will need to be someone they know and trust.

I love pets but a parrot would be too much work for me, they are a bit like a feathered toddler.

Grin at feathered toddler. He might have more toys than my dc but I thought that was just because he was a bit precious. He is 15 already but some website suggest Pionus' can live up to about 40 so hopefully he'll keep going for a while yet. Is there such a thing as kennels for a parrot or will I need to get someone to come in if I ever go on holiday again?
