female cat spraying in house.

my cat is about 2 yo, i got her from the cats protection 3 weeks ago. She's in season and over the last few days she's started spraying in my house. She's also scratching my leather couch.

I took her to the vets today to get her neutered, i'm hoping she'll stop doing this now. Has anyone any experience of this with a female cat?

She will spray when she is in season...to attract the mate and also mark her teritory. Sometimes after spaying she may still continue to do this as a habit. Clean the areas marked with white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda or biological washing powder. It gets rid of the smell etc. She may also need a product called Feliway..a pheromone plug in thing to help her if she is worried about stuff. (I worked in a vets for 15 yrs) hope this helps. She may also stop spraying when spayed.

Agree with the feliway reccomendation. Quite often cats will spray and vertical scratch when worried and to mark out that this is an area to be wary of so that when they go back they know what is good and what is not. The feliway contains a replicate hormone which replicates the happy areas (where they rub their faces etc) and therefore no reason to be wary or upset.
