Kitten fleas - any help?!

We have an 11 week old kitten and have just discovered it has fleas. These came from the owners house as she has 4 cats so ours must have bought some with him, nice.. I have put some flea stuff on the back of his neck, do you know how long this takes to work? I have hoovered everywhere and washed his bed, but I am sure I must have missed some, maybe on our clothes so will they come back? Or do they die quite quickly if they are not on a cat?

Sorry lots of questions - but a first time kitten owner and I have a 4 year old so want to make sure we get rid of them asap.

Thanks.

kitten front-line

and worm it, if it got fleas, chances are they didn't worm either.

Frontline can only be used on kittens over 12 wks old if i remember correctly. The frontline in the bottle is ok tho. Its very good and lasts for 2-3 months. You must see that the kitten is wormed also as the kitten will have tapeworm from the fleas and roundworm from the mother. Kitten should be wormed every 3 wks untill 12 wks old. Then every 4 wks untill 6 months old. Panacur in a syringe is good enough for tiny kittens then it comes in granuels. Loads of others on the market but its important that you buy from a vets and NOT a petshop. Petshops sell a weaker version which generally doesnt work as well if at all. Fleas on kittens if overloaded with them can cause Anaemia and eventual death in extreme cases (i have seen it before). Treat the house also as once you have fleas in the house they mulitply and reinfect the kitten....The vets will supply a good house hold spray. The main ingredient in flea stuff is Permithrin. If its got a good % of that you should be ok. (I used to work in a vets for 15 years)
