Leaving a puppy for 2 hours

Hi,

We are looking at getting a puppy. I am at home most of the time but am out for 2 hours per day on average. Would a puppy be ok for 2 hours on its own if it was in a crate?

Mine is a cocker spaniel and she's absolutely fine in her crate for two hours.

She goes all night no problem. And she's in her crate at our mealtimes and occasionally for a couple of hours if she ant come with us somewhere.

Not supposed to leave them more than about three hours I think.

As long as they enjoy being in their crate and it's a haven for them it should be fine.

Our pup is five months old.

What dog you thinking of getting?

We're thinking of getting a Cavachon as I want a little dog that is placid with children and cats

A crate-trained puppy will be left for two hours no problem. Try to make sure you introduce the new dog to the crate in a positive way (Gwen Bailey books are great for advice on this, and you can find lots of tips and guides online).

A general rough rule is that a dog can be left alone in his/her crate for 1 hour for every month of ages, up to an absolute max of 6 hours. Try to give them some exercise beforehand.
