they are huge

but you knew that

and not as cute as Lakeland terriers

I've jsut read your reply on the last thread, and it does look like a Great Dane would be good. Their hair is very short, they don't need too much exercise.
The onyl downsides I can think of is that they eat loads, I mean twice as much as a lab for example. And due to the sheer size of them you have to be very up on training them. A great dane that jumps up is going to knock a child down. They also have heath issues, but most breeds do have somethign or other, you jsut have to be careful to find a good breeder with health checks done too.
But they are friendly dogs, with lovely tempereraments.

Kelly1978 · 15/02/2006 17:26

oh and defo cuter than lakeland terriers!

hercules · 15/02/2006 17:32

we can afford to feed it and will deffo take it for training classes. Every person I've spoken to regards different breeds have all said this for their own breed as with any dog.

If you go for a great dane I would try to get them onto dried food straight away, would save a fortune. Something like feebo you can buy by the sackful, and works out a lot cheaper than tins. I don't know anything about training classes, but sounds like a good idea.

My MIL has a great dane and she´s a really lovely dog -brilliant temperament and really great with the children. On the downside MIL has spent a fortune on vets bills as the dog seems to have permanent problems with hips, feet, back etc. I have to say I find the slobber revolting and great danes slobber a lot! Everytime she shakes her head (which is often) everyone/thing within a few metres gets covered.

your kid/s could put a saddle on it and ride it round the house!

Wolfie, wolfie, wolfie....

and on and on and on.

am I convincing you yet?

hercules · 16/02/2006 15:56

No!

we saw some great danes today to get an idea and after being licked by several, I developed an itchy rash where their tongues had been. I'm hoping this is just due to saliva. Loved the dogs.
