Any Russian Blue owners out there?

Can anyone advise? DH very allergic to cats but we all love them and DDs (7 and 9) desperate for a kitten. What are people's experiences with Russian Blues? Are they better for allergy sufferers as I've been told? And are they good family pets or are pedigrees more difficult to look after?

I don't have a cat but researched Siberian cats because I heard they were better for allergy sufferers. I'm afraid all my research found that there is no true allergy free cat.

The best thing to do us arrange an allergy test visit to check a particular kitten. You need to get DH to handle the cat as much as he would wish to at home. For me this meant playing with the kitten for a while.

Sadly it didn't work for us. Within an hour I had a strong reaction to the cat. Since then I've become increasingly allergic to more things (fruit of all things).

From what I can understand some people build tolerance to allergies and living with a cat works out. For others (like me) allergies are more cumulative and the impact increases.

This is just my experience and research though - hope it works out for you and your family.

I have two Russian blues. Gorgeous looking cats. Plenty of fur flying around though. I would not say the more than other breeds/moggies but they are not allergy-proof. We have a friend who has a terrible allergy to animals and he does not visit because the cats set it off...

But then I personally don't believe in stories that "this breed is good for allergy sufferers" whether it is about cats or dogs.
