what's wrong with my chicken?

We have 2 pet chickens, Ginger and Babs. They have been fighting recently so we have separated them. The egg Ginger laid this morning is very, very odd - instead of a tough shell it has a thick membrane and if you hold it up to the light you can't see a yolk in there - just the clear white albumen.

Any one have any ideas what's going on?

my friends chickens used to lay them like that somtimes... think it means they aren't eating enough stuff to make the shells thick and hard

Ooh, I've just spend the weekend with a friend whose chickens are doing this too. Well, one of the chickens is, and the others are eating the eggs.

Its either
a) not enough grit (feed them more grit)
b) a wierd change in their metabolism (time for a roast dinner!)
