We've just bought a Spongebob Squarepants fishtank....

DDs love spongebob and I have fancied having a simple fishtank for ages. So imagine dds faces when we walked into the pet shop. Three happy young ladies and a dh with rolling eyes thinking "another job for me to do".
We've set it all up this evening and it's looking good. Filter is running. We have to take a water sample from the tank back to the pet shop in about five days. They will test it and let us know if it's okay to buy the fish.
It's only a simple tank so we shall be getting a couple of goldish - hopefully some little fantails.
Any tips? TIA x

Get something other than goldfish. They are some of the messiest fish around. Seriously. DS loves fish, and he has Betas, because they are fairly hearty and require far less work than goldfish.

On a lighter note, we love Spongey, too. DS (2.4) calls him Gwa Gwa Bob Pants and we had to buy him a giant-sized stuffed Bob Pants at Christmas that he takes wherever we go.

We have 2 goldfish and they have ceased to be messy since we ceased to feed them on flake food - we give them little granules now and the water has been crystal clear for weeks. When we open the top bit they come up and flap their eyelashes at us (well they would if they had eyelashes). One of them still hasn't learned to suck so blows bubbles at its little granule until it gets stuck in a corner and then it manages to get its mouth round it - and then it chases the other one around the tank in triumph, "didja see what I did then, didja, didja?"

Also had some weed, which helps until they eat it all and you have to fish the floating stalks out.

SorenLorensen it's a bit like that one. Well the tank is all set up and running - filter has kicked in. I added some more gravel yesterday as there wasn't enough with the original packet to hold the plastic plants down. Bright orange stones - but it looks really good. The filter has a lovely orange tinge this morning.
Looks like we are going to get two fantails - both dds will choose one each.
We need suggestions for names now. Shall I start a WHAT SHALL I CALL MY GOLDFISH THREAD??? PMSL!!
