hello - we inherited 2 cats last year (maybe not correct use of inherited - friends went to New Zealand and we foolishly said would have their cats) We already had a cat and have alwasys used frontline. Our friends said they occasionally had flea issues but didnt believe in routinely using products such as frontline. Anyway we started using frontline as soon as they got on the plane to NZ (the friends got on the plane - not the cats)

I think I forgot to treat them all when due just before Christmas and last few days my head has been itching - generally when I have sat on the sofa where the cats all hang out. I have what feel like little spots around my ears and on my hairline and the more I think about it the itchier I feel.

I have just talked to a neighbour who is a vet and asked whether Frontline is the best way to go and she said use Advantage so I will be off to get that tomorrow. I asked her about my head and she said "dont worry - the fleas will be dead when you get the advantage sorted" At this point I didnt want to start asking her about the sofa, carpet etc in case she gave me a bill (she isnt my vet). Does anybody know best product to use on furnishings?

Also do I need to treat the whole house? The cats only go in kitchen, utility and this playroom/study which has an old sofa in it. They dont go in the main sitting room much and if they do they all have a tendency to lie on the floor by the fire - they dont seem to like the furnishings in there - and if we catch them near it they get swiftly moved on. They dont go in the bedrooms at all - do I need to treat the bedroooms? Hallway? etc

My head is itching more now - all help advice welcome. Will there be fleas alive on my head??? or am I just imagining the "itch" because I have bites.

nobody else in the house has bites - I am clearly the lucky one. Help please. Katie the crazy flea lady.

I think the vet meant that once the cat has the Advantage on that anywhere it comes into contact with fleas they will be eradicated. My vet said to only treat one of my cats because they cuddle up to sleep together and both would be covered by one cats dose. Seems to be working.
My daughter had her house and indoor cat infected by a teddy bear she brought from a charity shop, her vet said the same, treat the cat and let the cat treat the house.
I'd try anti-histamine for your itchy scalp.

thanks for the advice. i treated the animals yesterday and amazingly my head stopped itching instantly! perhaps it was all in my head after all - as opposed to on my head.

I have bought a spray for the house so will spend tomorrow hoovering and spraying - fingers crossed
