what would happen to the other cats who lives around here.. will they be shitting our garden more?

(im getting rid of garden this year as the other cats is shitting it all the time!! so ive decided to flag it... im the only one with the garden around here as we've all got back yards)

They shit in your garden no more as your cat will mark its scent, be warned any gardens with no cats get shat in a lot, and then the house owners moan at you as it's always YOUR cat that did it, as if the neighbours watch 24/7
Well thats how it is round here
The bonus is that as cats get older they also go out of their territory to shit

WigWamBam · 15/01/2006 19:18

Depends on whether your cat turned out to be a fighter or a wuss. Our cat is a wimp who doesn't defend her own territory (so we get lots of poo) but most cats do, and will chase off intruding cats. So in theory you would end up with less cats (and therefore less poo) but it doesn't always work that way in practice.

Because you have the only garden you may well find that the other cats will still come, even if your cat is prepared to defend it's territory, simply because they like to poo in earth, and if your garden is the only one with earth in it, that's where they will come.

so if i do take up the grass (garden).. they still come??

They will come if there is any earth, even in flower pots. Your cat should keep out the other cats 90% of the time though. But what will your cat do if your garden has no earth in it???!

biglips · 16/01/2006 10:02

so youre saying i should keep the garden? as its 5 ' X 8 ' ...... and its got quite abit of poo in it... im just thinking of my DD

biglips · 16/01/2006 10:03

Put gravel down?!

NomDePlume · 16/01/2006 10:24

I;ve got a cat and have never noticed other cats pooing in my garden. Cats are territorial animals and so they will mark their own territory (likely to start off with their owner's gardens), the smell of your cat's marking scent will deter other cats from using your garden.

iota · 16/01/2006 10:25

cats love gravel and bark chippings

magnolia1 · 16/01/2006 16:02

If you pave your garden completely and have no flower pots etc.... Your cat will go in someone elses garden to Sh*t. But If none of you have gardens the further your cat will have to go and as a young cat it's probably not going to be nice for him or her to have to go far away from the home. We have 2 cats and 1 of them goes in our garden but its under the trees so doesn't aafect kids etc.. but we have dogs too so no other cats dare come in the garden

biglips · 16/01/2006 18:53

arrrrgghhhh - dont know what to do now!

either keep grass and see what happens (ive got flowers in plant pots anyway)

OR

rid of grass and put more flowers plant pots down

I'd go with the plant pots and put those big beach pebble stones around the plants - they're quite decorative and too big for the cats to be bothered to move to poo. Though your cat will have to travel more - could you have a litter tray somewhere out of the way at least while she/he settles in?
When distressed our cat poos under the fishtank in the lounge. sigh.

magnolia1 · 16/01/2006 20:02

Oh I am not laughing really but under the fishtank!! Ours does it in the ironing pile if stressed

biglips · 16/01/2006 20:28

Right thanks for aalllll your advice as ive decided to go with pepperrabbits advice

Thanks again everyone ! x
