What are they like? How house trainable are they? Are they destructive? Are they fun and how much do they smell? Please talk me out of one as I think DH might kill me.

now there's an idea. we have dogs and cats. can't have rodents or birds because of the cats. DD2 would love a pig.

I've just been trying to find out who its owner is but if I fail do you want a sheep instead? Xmas Wink

Well I was thinking of having the pig in the house. Don't think I could cope with a sheep in the house.

We do actually have a brick pigsty in the garden but I'd feel bad having an ikkle piggy outside.

I watched a programme about them last week and after a year they are fairly hefty, they only stay micro for a couple of months.

CarolCervix · 13/12/2011 16:32

or maybe a micro-horse, or micro-goat?

VivaLeBeaver · 13/12/2011 16:35

Some companies promise that theirs stay small for ever. But someone I know can get them for £100 which is really cheap, therefore I'm more suspicious that they'll get big.

Just mentioned it to DH and he is not impressed so I think its a no. And also it would be a nightmare for going on holiday. You can't put them in kennels.

they don't stay small! no micro pig will stay micro forever. they will all grow relatively big
there is no "micro" breed.. you just have to hope they've had the right genes passed down to keep them small and there is no guarantee that you won't end up with a massive porker.

pigs shouldn't be kept as housepets.

StellaAndFries · 13/12/2011 17:27

They will end up usually at least the size of a Labrador, definitely not micro!

VivaLeBeaver · 13/12/2011 17:37

Right, that's knocked that idea on teh head. Thanks.

My friend is a farmer and she's had to take on a "micro" pig that somebody couldn't cope with... It's as big as a motorbike big enough to ride Grin
