When can we let our kitten outside?

Well, we finally got a kitten ... we have had her for 2 weeks (she is now 10 weeks old) and is just the sweetest most adorable little bundle of fur EVER ... she is tortoiseshell with white tummy and legs ... and DS has named her Woody ... I am happy to say that I now feel complete and definitely won't be having anymore children
Anyway, does anyone know when we can let her out of the house? She is getting a bit restless and we are melting from a warm NZ summer with no windows or doors being open!
Is there an age she must be before being let out?

My cat book says they can be let out a week after they've had their vaccinations (which the vet who wrote it reckons is about 9 weeks).

Thank WWB ... she has had her first set of vax but is due the next lot on 4th Jan ...

I understood it to mean that it was OK a week after the first set of vaccinations at 9 weeks, so I wouldn't think you'd have to wait. Can you give your vet a ring and ask what they recommend?

We kept ours indoors for 3 weeks. She came from a rescue home. We were told she needs that long to get used to the new environment. After 1.5 years we took her to my SIL for the summer holiday. We first saw my PILs and let Annie out in their garden, then went to SIL and let Annie out again, 2 different gardens in one day. The clever kitty never got lost. SIL loves her so much she has kept her. (Much to DS's anguish, Annie was his cat.)
