Microchips - rant

Microchips are fantastic, they are fabulous on a regular basis they allow me to reunited lost animals with their owners and sadly to tell mostly cat owners what has happened rather than the not knowing.
The current situation we have is so frustrating. A cat turns up has a microchip fab, phone the registered phone number disconnected, phone all the vets where the cat is from not registered with any of them, phone CPL who put in the microchip details all the same. We have sent a letter to the address, but don't hold out much hope.
So we have a poor pussy looking sad in the clinic facing returning to the CPL to find another home.
So please if you have a pet who is chipped and have moved changed phone number etc check the register has the correct details.

In Oz there are several databases. If you scan my Adelaide based female border collie she comes up as a cat somewhere in Sydney. If you put in her name and my contact details it comes up with the chip number. The database people admit there's "something a bit wrong" but say they can't do anything about it. :(

The UK uses the ISO 15 number chips so there is no duplication among chips just thoughtless owners who don't update their details. Poor puss is still sat looking sad, though he likes to give big dogs the stare.

Our chips are fine... it's the data entry people who seem to have made an error in Gypsy's case.

Lizcat, I totally agree, and also think it is very frustrating. Know quite a few Dog Wardens and they all say the same thing. This issue came up a lot when i was doing research for the recent Welsh consultation on chipping.

Can't wait for the day when chipping is compulsory though - like you i think the benefits massively outweigh some of the hiccups.
