OK - big problem. DS and DD got a goldfish each in a tank last week as a joint birthday present(Nemo and Grommit). They have been quite a hit - the children like to press their faces against the tank, talk to them, take turns in feeding them and generally enoy having them around. Grommit - belonging to DS (just 4) has now snuffed it. Apprently DS hasn't realised this yet (I'm at work). Neither DH nor I can get to the pet shop before tomorrow morning.
Do we do the time honoured thing of rushing out early tomorrow morning and buying a replacement and hoping he won't notice? Do we introduce DS to the cruel world of life and death (albeit in the gentle manner of replaceable pets )?
Other complicating factors: to the extent goldfish look anything and DH and I can spot these things, we thought Nemo was looking a bit peaky last night. Do we wait for Nemo to die as well? We are going away on Sunday for 4 days: do we come clean and get a new one when we get back?
Bugger.
