Fox poo question......nice, I know, sorry!

So my beloved dog found the biggest pile of fox poo this morning to have a good old roll in

I have bathed her twice with doggy tea-tree shampoo and she still stinks Confused

There is no visible residue. Do I need to keep washing her until smell disappears? Usually it disappears after first bath but you can definitely detect the "tang" when you snuggle in to her :(

Am just a bit paranoid about fox poo and DCs tbh.

Wait til she is thoroughly dry before you make a final decision. Possibly it will also wear off after a day or two?

okay, thanks :)

A smell won't hurt your children but repeatedly bathing your dog could hurt her.

Repeated bathing as you suggest strips the skin of natural oils and leaves a dog vulnerable to skin irritation. Make sure that when you bath her you use a shampoo designed for dogs and not humans or this too can be harmful.

HTH.

My vet told me that the best thing to get out the smell of fox poo is Ketchup! Rub it in where the poo is (after you've wet the area) leave for a few mins then shampoo off with normal dog shampoo.

I admit I was skeptical, but after a particularly bad roll I did it and it worked really well!

I now keep a giant bottle of ketchup under the sink just for this reason!

I asked a similar question recently, and no one had a better remedy than ketchup.

Thanks for the ketchup tip :) The smell of ketchup makes me heave but nowhere near as much as the aroma of fox poo!

Vallhalla I wasn't worried about the aroma hurting the children. I was worried that if the smell was still present then perhaps she wasn't thoroughly clean. I do use a dog shampoo and the repeated bathing was no more than when as a human you might use double dose shampoo before conditioner :)

My dog rolls in fox poo pretty much daily. I just use a damp flannel, I have got used to the smell.

Ketchup will do the job. Tried and tested in this household Smile

I hate fox poo! I have no idea why my lab finds it so wonderful!
