Just want some sympathy as I realise not much can be done. My lovely 7 month old kitten has been with us a month from a rescue centre. We let him out for the first time this week. All was well. Yesterday he kept popping up and came back in for the afternoon. I let him out this morning and havent seen him since Sad. I have walked up and down shouting his name and shaking biscuits and toys, let the vet and microchip people know. I am gutted. We dont have a cat flap fitted as yet so now I am worried sick he wont be able to get in if he comes back too late. He is so lovely and friendly and had fitted in straight away with us. My poor DCs will be so upset if he doesnt come back. And its cold out there Sad Sad

Is there any chance he could have got into a neighbours shed or garage and got shut in.Our 7 month old went missing for 2 days a fortnight ago and just when we had given up hope,in he strolled screaming for food.Hope he comes back soon.

I'm sure he will be fine - cats like to explore, and a 7 mo cat is like a 10yo kid - inquisitive etc. He might also be a bit of a hunting cat who likes to be out at night - we can't keep ours in (well, we can, but they trash the house, so I reckon they can go outside and trash the mouse). Can you stay up lateish? Any windows you can leave open, or is that not a good idea?

I was frantic the first time our kitten stayed out all night, but she turned up right as rain after a few hours-try not to worry too much!

Feelingsensitive · 19/02/2011 10:04

He turned up this morning after 24 hours and me getting up at 2 and 5 to see if he was there. He was wet and dirty and stinks, he has a big red bald mark around his neck and he had worked his collar over his lower jam so I think he got his head stuck or collar caught. Thanks for your replies. I am taking him for a check up later at the vets.

Glad to hear he is home.

Ibelieveitsdragonbutter · 19/02/2011 19:41

what a relief!

ArabellaFinchHartley · 19/02/2011 19:48

OH I am relieved he is home FS, what a nightmare! I don't know if his routine is too established now but when we got our kittens we were told to put a few biscuits in a shaker and always shake it just before you put food down. That way you can let him out when he is due food and hopefully the shaker will bring him whizzing in for dinner at the right time (obviously not if he got stuck somewhere though). HTH and glad he is home safe and sound.

rocketleaf · 19/02/2011 19:51

Oh so glad he's home safe. I was going to say before I read that for you not to worry too much. Because he's male he will probably wander much further than a girl cat, they have much bigger territories. It does sounds like he's been on a bit of an adventure! He would have been checking out EVERY little corner of his potential territory especially the first time he goes out. Don't be surprised if he comes back battered a few times too (our male rescue cat carries many battle scars!) while he gets to know where the boundaries of the other cats are.

LifeInTheSlowLane · 24/02/2011 08:16

So glad your cat returned - you posted on my thread where I was asking for advice on letting cats out for the first time! Mine have been out several times now but only for short periods. The younger male went out before breakfast and I know it's only been an hour but I am a real worrier! Good to know your kitty is safe and sound Smile

KimB77 · 28/02/2011 12:07

So happy you found your kitten! Mine used to go missing, sometimes for a day, sometimes for more than a day and it worried me so much. One time one of them was stuck in the shed and another time she had got into the next door neighbours house and got trapped in there! It's an awful feeling thinking they might not return. Neither of my cats have gone wandering for too long lately, thankfully!

kittycat234 · 01/03/2011 14:18

Aww nice that he has turned up. My cats are out all the time. It is always a worry but they know where their food is (and a nice warm bed hehe).

On another note my dads cat Rio disappeared for 3 months and turned up acting as if he didnt know what all the fuss was about. Probably having a kitty holiday with another family as he looked well fed etc.

:)
