More info please!

Where did he come from? Big rescue, small one, private rehome?

What breed is he?

How old is he?

How much contact and intereaction did you have with him before you adopted him and brought him home?

Do you know anything of his past history?

If he was in rescue, do you know how long for?

What's the set-up in your family - eg how many children, what ages?

Can't think straight but there's loads more I'd like to know before I could hazard a guess and chuck any suggestions your way, so I'll leave you with those questions for the moment. :)

I think separation anxiety is pretty common after rehoming, our dog had this at first - barking and howling when we left him downstairs at night, or if we went out, and following us everywhere around the house, plus lots of anxious panting and pacing.

We built up the leaving times gradually and he was fine after a while, though at first it seemed like he'd never be OK with it. I think a big part of it is the dog just getting settled in the new home and feeling safe and happy there, and knowing that when you go out, you always come back, this can take a little while. It's a confusing and stressful time for the dog, when you look at it from their point of view.

btw this is a dog who'd been fine with being left for a few hours in his previous home, so it was just a temporary thing due to the rehoming, maybe different if it's a dog that's never been happy to be left.
