Anyone elses dog tained as a PAT dog? We did want him trained as an assistance dog for DD1 who has Autism but as we have DD2 with possble Autism they said no :(
PAT sounds good and be nice that he can help others too, he is a such a sweet heart.

I registered my dog to be a Pat dog I was just waiting to arrange an assessment when he sadly died.
I know people who have done it. One said that they mostly visited old peoples homes and her lab got really fat as they were constantly feeding him biscuits!
I would like to do it again but at the moment I have an unsuitable collie and a completely loopy spaniel so it doesnt look likely!
good luck doing it with your dog though.

Sounds like a lovely idea, good luck.

Why on earth have you been turned down as owners of an Autistic assistance dog just because of fears over DD2? I don't get it, surely if it turns out that DD2 also suffers from Autism it would be all the more helpful and worthwhile? How odd!

I'd have loved for my late long haired chaampagne GSD to have been a PAT dog but sadly we lived too far from the training area and hospital. He would have been perfect - he just bumbled along quietly by my side, greeting everyone with a sit down and a dopey, "Hello, I'm Shane and I'm nice" attitude.

One day, when my fruit loop of a 3yo b&t GSD calms down I hope to follow in your footsteps. (Maybe in about 8 years from now given his bounce factor!).

no idea why, but rules state you can only have 1 child with Autism in the house :( I think he'd be fab for DD1 and DD2 is still quite young.
