One of the dogs (Connie) ended up needing to go in to have some stitches today for a cut to her leg that occurred during one of the fights between the dogs. It came to almost £300 and involved a day at the vets for her.

I took the other dogs all out for their walks when we got back from the vets, one by one, so was out for quite a while, in the pouring rain, so came back home like a drowned rat. Had a shower, got PJ's on, sat down with a coffee...

No Connie in sight, so I asked my husband where she was. Apparently shut in the dining room... Angry Got her out to see she didn't have her collar on... Angry Angry Angry upon further inspection, I could see she had chewed/licked all but one of her stitches out... Angry Angry Angry

Honestly, WHAT was my husband thinking?! Did he think the vet gave us said collar for a laugh?! I am absolutely furious. Apprently I didn't tell him what to do. No, I didn't, because I assumed he could exercise some initiative for once. We're not going to look like total morons taking her back to the vets tomorrow to get stitched again, are we?! We decided to claim in the insurance for today, but I don't think they pay out for owner stupididty, do they?! Angry

My sense of humour has left the building...

oh

this is not good

I hope there will be compensation along the line of dh doing cold, wet dog walks for a week and you mostly putting your feet up.

Sorry to read about your dog nightmares (but many congratulations btw for the other thing Smile)

Thanks. (and for the congrats on the 'other' Grin )

There's no way I am trusting him with my dogs on walks. They are under strict training and he won't bother. He's already broken Connie's recall whilst I was on bedrest, so she is now strictly on lead only until it's fixed, and is not to be trusted whatsoever, clearly. Hmm

ah

There must be some other household area in which reparations can be claimed.

That or [evil thought] maybe he should be made to wear the Cone Of Shame tomorrow. all day.

As a far as your insurance claim is concerned we vets don't comment on the form as to why the second stitch up had to occur within 24 hours and I've never known an insurance company not pay out.
Go alone blame it all on the husband, in exactly the words you've used here. You will endear yourself to your vets and give them a good laugh.

Dh would do something like this. He is clueless about animals. He once told me the reason our dog growls sometimes is because I feed him red meat. This gives them 'a taste for blood' and 'turns them' Hmm Grin

He is also incapable of having any independent thought. Both DH and the dog are in serious training atm. The dog seems to be learning quicker than DH.

I vote blame DH and make him do all the washing up/other household chore you hate for a week.

Hmmmmm...

Well, DH has rang the vets. He told them he had come down this morning to find the stitches out! They said some dogs can get them off even wih the collar. So, he has been let off. I will also remember in future to either do things myself or give clear instructions... Grin

The good news is they are going to staple it back together, so she doesn't need another GA. Not sure why they didn't do that in the first place, but it was quite deep, so maybe they needed a GA to clean it out properly. Or maybe it was the fact insurance was mentioned... sceptical, me?! Grin They did say she is a very well behaved dog, which is nice to know. She is not impressed by her collar though and will not walk one step with it on, for love nor money, so we have ot take it off for toilet trips etc. Grin
