Old Lady Flopsy has passed away

our old lady rabbit died yesterday. she was looking tired in the morning, but has been like that a lot lately with the changing weather. i tempted her to eat with some treats and water, and she seemed ok when we went out in the afternoon.
we came back in the evening and could see she wasnt well. :( i bought her inside, and 30mins later she died :( I think she was waiting for us :(

i had her 5years+ and she wasnt a baby when i got her. i got her as felt sorry for her in the shop. she had been beaten up by the other rabbits and had fur missing. she never got completly tame, but would allow me to handfeed her, and pick her briefly to move her from hutch to run and daily checks. she used to growl like a dog at people, or run and hide.

She had the best summers with free run of the gardens, and would jump and hop all over the place.

i miss her, but cant do it again :(

I am sorry about your rabbit. I doubt it is much comfort but it sounds like you gave her such a good life and rescued her from a really distressing situation.

How lovely for her to have spent time with someone who cared so much for her and let her bounce about in the garden. I'm sure she would have felt looked after and loved.

It sounds like she wasn't suffering too much either if she ate and drank in the morning and she obviously wanted to hang on to say goodbye.

Big hugs to you at this really difficult time xx

Oh that's one of the hardest things isn't it? I remember going to feed our old dog weeks after he'd passed away.

It shows how much you loved her though and I'm sure she felt it.

I think it does take a while to get over the loss of pet so be kind to yourself.

When we lost our dog, my DH's aunt painted a fantastic portrait of him that we have up on our wall so we can say hello to him every day. Do you have a photo of your lovely rabbit?

Sending lots of hugs xx
