Our Guinea Pig died :(

We went out this morning and Benny had died. We knew he was old and not his normal self these last couple of days and had tempted him with new straw/lettuce/parsley/dandelions all to no avail.

He was 7, very good innings for a Guinea Pig.

However, cue loud wailings from children - his brother died in November and he never really got over it to be honest but we had to rehome the replacement we got as Benny hated him - lots of fighting and ripped ears ensued.

Luckily we are rabbit sitting for friends for 2 weeks starting Wednesday, but tomorrow is going to be a full state funeral!!

And already they are trying to decide what they want as a replacement - as you can see, the wailing didn't last that long.

Except for me .... I love guinea pigs and bred them for years as a younger person. I want more, and babies, NOW!!!

RIP Benjamin Pig!

RIP Benjamin Pig :(

We have 2 girlies so I know how it feels. Although my longest-lived pig was only up to 6, I think.

More piggies, yes?

Have a good funeral for him and remember to put a brick/stone over the grave to stop the foxes.

Oh yes I think more piggies, possibly a young breeding pair, are in the offing!!

Ds (8) wants a cat. Dd2 (6) wants a rabbit. Dd1 (10) is too distraught to discuss it tonight.

I am the mum though, so its MY decision (though dd2 has wanted a rabbit for so long (2 years) that Santa might be persuaded that way .....)

mini lopears are very cute! I wanted a rabbit when I ended up with a guineapig (looking in the pet section for a bunny, saw this forlorn little scrap of g'pig instead and took it home with me! Best pig ever but sadly died far too young :()

He's all wrapped up nicely in a shoebox to bury tomorrow and now I am crying ......

Its just a GP, but he was my piggy and I loved him.

Curse my eyes!

Yup, ds named him. We've had him for 2.7 years, a long time for a hamster apparantly.

Our local guinea pig rescue always has around 70 gps that need a home. Please rescue a couple instead of breeding them.

Sorry meant to say that I am so sorry for your loss. We had a little pig die a few months ago and we were heartbroken but 7 years is such a good age that little Benjamin pig must have had a lovely life.
