Anyone have a Guinea Pig with diabetes

My 3 yr old guinea pig has started drinking a lot lately and also seems to have lost a lot of weight, other than that he seems healthy, is running around and eating well.
I am going to take his to the vets next week, however if it is diabetes, what is the treatment?

You could give Vedra at the Cambridge Cavy Trust a ring. She is very experienced with gp illnesses.

yes one of our pigs is a confirmed diabetic and her sister i suspect is also.
The confirmed pig is blind because of it (sudden onset cataract)but gets around fine.Initially she had wet bottom a lot and a crap vet was treating her for uti's.I did some googling and suspected diabetes ,demanded a different vet test her urine for sugar and it was sky high.
The only prob we has was that her sister started bullying her so we had to split them up
Our vet doesnt treat her for the diabetes as he said there it would be impossible to inject a guinea pig /sort out does etc.He said she was the only diabetic guinea pig he has seen in 30 years of vetinary practice.
He said as long as she is eating and drinking and appears happy then to leave her as she is.
our other pig is now going bald so im off to start a thread about that now.

He seems happy and his eyes are clear. It just seems so noticeable as he was always so much bigger than our peruvian silky who is a year younger.
