My cat has gone missing :-(

She's been gone for 2 days and we are worried sick.

She is not a wanderer by nature and prefers to stick close to home.

She is also very nervous around people she doesn't know so won't appoach anyone or let them catch her.

I wish she'd come home Sad

Have you put letters / flyers through doors asking people to check their sheds or garages? Is she chipped?

My little cat went missing and my vet said it's worth putting up posters and notices asking people to check their sheds etc as quite often cats, especially shy ones, go in and then hide until everyone's gone.

The other thing to keep in mind is that it's warm outside so you don't need to worry about her getting cold - and it's rained recently so there'll be water around too. I only found out when my cat went missing that they can go for 9 days with no water and 2 weeks with no food (they basically just sleep a lot if there's no food about). My vet also told me that cats can live off insects, spiders and worms if they are trapped in a shed.

The other tip my vet gave me was to make sure any cat flaps or access points are open at night (if that's safe) as that's when scared cats tend to do most of their travelling.

After 5 weeks, I'd given up hope really but my little puss turned up.

I am sure she wants to come home and they are such resourceful animals that she'll keep trying until she gets back to you.

My cat and I are keeping our fingers and paws crossed for you and your puss.

Lots of hugs and don't give up - I really hope she'll wander back in that nonchalant cat way very soon.

Great advice from gardenpixie. I hope she comes home safe and sound soon.

Has she been microchipped? If she has then if she gets picked up anywhere & taken to a vet they will be able to get in touch with you (if details are uptodate). That could take awhile.

If she doesn't usually go far chances are she has been shut in somewhere so do ask around for people to check as already suggested. Also with the weekend coming people will be opening up sheds etc

I do hope she turns up.

Good point, Elvis, about the weekend and sheds.

Also, have you called round vets and the RSPCA? It's quite good to let them know she is missing just in case anyone sees her looking a bit lost and calls up.

Great advice on here. Put flyers through every door locally - go further than you think she might have done. Knock on doors and ask too. I found lots of people were only too happy to look out for my regular wanderer if I asked, especially elderly people. Get the local children looking too.

Local radio will probably put something on for you too. Ring round the RSPCA, Cats Protection, other rescues and local vets.

Our cat was shut in next door's shed for 5 days. Despite us asking them to check, they didnt, so be persistent!

There's every chance she will come back, dont lose hope. I've had a cat come back after 9 weeks! And the one in the shed was gone for 3 weeks another time - he just gone to live with someone else Angry.

Finally (and sorry for mentioning it but its best to know I suppose), the council collects any animals who are knocked down on the roads. If you could bear to contact them to check, it might be worth doing.

You could contact the local school and offer a reward ? I did that with a local primary school when one of mine was missing for 8 days and 9 nights - the kids turned out in force to help.

The thing that really worked for me was getting the local paper to run a story with a picture - I got a phone call the day the paper came out and he was home with me 30 minutes later :)
