Worming a cat HOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????

Ok dh and I are trying to worm our lovely cat. We wrapped her in a towel and dh held her whilst I tried to shove it down her throat. I failed utterly. Couldn't get it past her tongue, she just kept licking and forcing it out. HOw do you wise cat owners do yours?

I fear I am too soft - she is so lovely. Neither of us have as much as a tiny scratch from this.
Trying the crush in to food route atm but I think she's wise to us.....

Got to do the frontline tomorrow - any tips for that?

Frontline should be easy, don't worry about it.

You can by worming drops which you apply the same as Frontline, I could never get my cats to take the tablets, unless I wanted to lose a finger.

Ooop's meant buy.

trick is, wrap her in towel, pop it in her mouth and then stroke under her chin and down her neck at front (were adams apple would be if they had one) this should make her swallow. Always works for my 2

I wrap him in a towel and push the tablet in a small piece of butter. I then push it in his mouth and I'm afraid I just hold his mouth shut and gently rub his throat until he swallows, which seems to happen fairly quickly if you rub.

He struggles and its not pleasant for any of us but I just tell myself its for his own good. Being nice about it didn't work for us.

Frontline has never been a problem.

the throat thing is obviously a winner judging by the cross posts.

glad this was posted as i tried to worm my two with the granules on tehir food and they were having none of it. they would rather starve than eat meat with a bit of powder on it.

I know the throat trick - we were all geared up or that. What I wasn't expecting was the difficulty in getting it in her mouth and shutting said mouth before the tonugue pushed it out. Do you have to basically stick your fingers down their throat - was I keeping back to much?

Tell me more about the frontline like drops........

I tip his head back and basically push it in as far as I can before quickly clamping shut. It sometimes takes a couple of attempts and I have had some close calls with my finger tips but we get the tablet down!

We hide the tablet in a cube of cheddar cheese - works every time. But my cat is quite dense.

Frontline simple, just do it when they are eating, be quick though as some don't like the sensation or smell.
Advocate does fleas, ticks and worms and earmites in a spot on form so you get it all done at once although you will need to dose for tapeworm occasionally as I don't think it covers it.
There is a Drontal spot on for that.

For the tablets though which are probably a soggy mess by now it sounds like you are doing the right thing but need to be a bit more positive, get the tablet as far back as you can. If you are worried about being bitten you can buy pill popper which helps. Generally you get once chance then they get wise to it!
Otherwise next time ask your vet nurse to do it, we used to do it for free if you bought the wormers from us although obviously you have the hassle of taking the cat in.

Finally if you haven't seen this it's quite funny

I have hidden tablets in a lump of butter or a cube of cat food meat before now and it works a treat especially if you starve them a bit beforehand.

not helpful but funny
