Advice needed please - how to stop kittens using litter tray?

Just wondering if anyone has any bright ideas to get our 4 month old kittens to stop using the litter tray and go in the garden instead.

We have been letting them out for a few weeks now. They will play quite happily in the garden then run in and use the litter tray.

I have been putting used cat litter from their tray down in the corner of the garden that we want them to use and have shown this to them. They have had a good sniff but never use it. Is there anything else I can do to encourage them?

put the tray closer and closer to the back door over a few days until its on the step. Then put it outside. once the are used to using it outside, take it away.
Sounds simple, worked for us. Good luck

Yes we did the same as purple worked well for us.

With ours I used to mix soil in with the litter, gradually increasing the ratio of soil to litter. Also did the same as purple and moved the tray outside.
