Can someone either reassure me or alternatively save me a fortune please?
I've had my GSD since he was a pup. He was never a huge chewer and rarely did he get hold of anything he shouldn't and destroy it. Except once. And that once was my sofa!
He was just under a year and I'd just bought a second hand fake leather sofa set because I was fed up with taking off, washing and replacing loose covers on the fabric suite (I'm veggie and don't use/wear leather, in case you're wondering!). I'd been upstairs tidying up for just 10 minutes and DD1 had stupidly accidentally left him in the sitting room and let the door swing shut on him. I came down to find that he'd chewed a bloody great hole in the back of one of my sofas!
As you can imagine, I quickly reverted to owning fabric covered sofas. Now, with a third big dog in the house, a long haired one at that, I'm heartily fed up of washing sofa covers again. (Yes, yes, I know the solution is not to allow the dogs on the sofa, but... aw, I'm a soft touch!). So, I'm now looking at buying a new suite which is faux leather. I know that it will cost me a small fortune to get something that looks anything other than obviously plasticy.
What I need to know beforehand is whether it's a risk worth taking? My destroyer dog is 3 now and hasn't touched an item of furniture since but I wonder still whether he might have a liking for faux leather and do it all over again.
Has anyone noticed that their dogs have a liking for furniture or other items made of this type of material? Or do you reckon it was a one-off?
All advice gratefully received.
Thanks!
