my dog is loopy and im not sure what to do with her.

she came as a rescue at 6months. she is now 6 years.

she goes barmy at other dogs but only when she feels "safe". so on a lead at the park she will start going loopy - if i drop the lead she turns into the biggest wuss and runs with her tail between her legs.

at home on her patch, she thinks she is a rottie.
next door have 2 big dogs. she will try and go for them through the fence. (ive often said to neighbour he should just lift up fence panel

and there is a yappy little dog in the house opposite our back garden, she goes and bangs on the fence with her paws to make it bark. she is driving me nuts with it....
how can i stop this? she hasnt been doing it forever, its started fairly recently. she is a cavalier king charles so not a scary dog, one day she will find a dog with a bite worse than its bark....

Sounds a bit like my JRT. It's probably 'fear' aggression - in other words - she's trying to tell the other dogs she's big ans scary and to keep away. Mine started doing this after having a few bad experiences with big dogs.

We did 1-2-1 training with a police dog handler. Basically doing lots of recall so she drops into a 'down' pretty readily. So now if I see something that will set her off, I say 'down' and she will lay and look at me and ignore whatever it is.

It takes a lot of work and you have to be firm. We had to force her into the sit position at the start of the training and she resisted to start. All the training was treat based and she loves her food but it was a struggle to start.
