Insurance

We have just got a Viszla pup and I am looking for insurance.

Our last dog was insured with PetPlan, but they seem soooo much more expensive than everyone else for the same level of cover, in fact for lower cover in some areas. They were fantastic at paying out swiftly without quibbles every time we had to claim for the old girl (well over £10k over the last 5 years). The premiums did rise over the years, but given that she was 14 when we lost her, and never put any exclusions on anything.

Part of me accepts that if you want service you have to pay for it, but wondered if anyone had any experience with other providers? I've had quotes from Aviva, Halifax, Argos, Greenbee all giving the cover I want.

I used the Defaqto website to compare and make sure that ones I was looking at gave enough cover, I'm just a bit wary about whether they'll argue the toss over claims, put exclusions on, and whether the premiums will automatically be hiked if we ever claim, or even if we don't (reel me in the first year with cheap cover, then hike the premiums).

Thanks.

Have you spoken with your vet? They have a very good overview of which plans provide the best coverage.

On the dog forum I belong to nearly everyone is covered by Argos.

They are supposed to be fantastic.
