My Male Lab is 9months old and hyper a lot of the time. Its completely our fault and i need help training him.
He eats our Chihuahuas poo,he bounces like Tigger on speed. If i leave him alone he either tries to chew/claw the door open.If left alone in the kitchen he eats whatever he can get to(quite a lot as he is pretty big) it doesnt even have to be food, he eats paper, chopping boards, coffeee pods! I also frequently find him standing on top of the cooker.
He is house trained,he has good recall, he will sit and thats about as good as he gets.
He is still 'entire' he goes for a run to the field or beach every morning for 30mins and has a sedate walk in the afternoon of about the same length. If he misses a walk or we go late he does the wall of death around the house, zooming around like a maniac skidding into doors leaping across the sofa.At that point i put him in his crate to calm him.
Sorry its long, but please help.

Where abouts in Sussex are you?

Tony Riddell is in West Sussex and is an absolute brilliant APDT trainer - very highly recommended.

or search for others nearer to you

apdt trainers

I would also say that he needs to up his exercise. Now he is 9 months he will need a minimum of 45 minutes exercise off lead twice a day. That will go a long way to settling down some of the behaviour.

He will also need other training in the day to burn off that labrador joy for life they all have! Clicker training would be great. If you are nearby I would willingly pop over and help you out.

I could do Worthing but I am off on hols for 4 weeks (I know lucky me but some of it is working, dog training seminars!). I am more than willing to help at the end of August.

I'll ask around and see if anyone knows of the APDT trainers in your area.

What food is he on? Sometimes certain foods can cause hyperactivity.

Totallyfloaty35 · 20/07/2010 17:25

He has been on Royal Canin,Eukanuba and James Well beloved, known of which have made any difference.
He is so manic i look like a battered wife as im covered in bruises and scratches from his clumsy leapings. He frequently knocks my 3 yr old flying when he is charging up and down
