I have questions about Guinea pigs.

We have just bought a new hutch for our rabbit and we we're originally going to scrap her old one but have decided to repair it, treat the wood and re felt it and buy a couple of guinea pigs.

We want two so that they will be company for each other but obviously don't want a girl and a boy living together, So can two girls or two boys live happily together without fighting or will they still need to be spayed/neutered?

Apart from dry guinea pig food what do they eat?

And are they friendly, ie can you handle them like you can a rabbit.

Also we have a huge run for our rabbit, would it be safe to let the guinea pigs into the run at the same time as the rabbit or would she hurt them?

You shouldn't mix guinea pigs and rabbits as rabbits can injure them badly if they attack them or even just playing due to the size difference, so I'd recommend two seperate hutches and runs.

They should have ad lib access to forage i.e. grass and or hay, and they should be given a dish of food twice a day and you can give them things like apples and carrots etc. as a daily treat. You'll need to move the run around every day or two so they have a fresh patch of grass. I have known girl/girl and boy/boy combos that live happily together, but best to get them from a young age anyway, and preferably from a rescue or private breeder as pet shop animals can be unhealthy.
