AIBU to ask you all to spend a minute signing this petition to provide more support for children leaving the care system. Many thanks

There’s a petitions topic I think?

So this may get moved there or deleted.

Ah ok. Thankyou. I will leave it here if I can for more traffic.

Signed. Young adults leaving care need far more help than they are currently given imo.

Signed. Breaks my heart that young care leavers are so often abandoned to deal with adulthood. I once read about care leavers going to uni with plastic carrier bags of just their clothes not realising they needed homewares etc. Broke my heart as my own kids were heading off to uni with a car filled with "essential" stuff.

Only 15% of care leavers go to university, compared to 47% of young people overall.

I was shocked at how little support a young adult I know got when she left care at 16 (Scotland). She managed to get her Universal Credit sanctioned before she had even received the first payment and was shunted around different hostels.

She is now in her early 20s and doing well. She eventually got a council house, has a long term partner and has a new baby.
