Not a chance of me signing that!

"These charges penalise our brightest and best, the very people that contribute the most to society."

What egotistical BS!

Says she with masses of student debt! I certainly don't contribute most to society and would never think I did just because I had a degree!

I just don't even have the words.. what a ridiculous and stupid comment. It's not a race to the bottom, you know.

OP I signed it.

How does that imply it's a race to the bottom?

I was calling out the elitist meritocratic rhetoric in the petition: claiming graduates are "the brightest and best" who "contribute most" to society, as if non-grads don't.

That's the egotistical BS I reject.

Humility > hierarchy.

I don't particularly like the wording the person who devised the petition used but it hasn't stopped me signing and sharing it to help struggling students incl my own adult children. I hope you can benefit from the reduction in interest rates by those who can overcome their high- minded principles and sign and share it

But let's hope you can benefit from the reduction in interest rates if enough people sign it and get over your objection to the wording

Considering most students never fully repay student loans before they are written off, lowering the interest rate on historical plans will never happen.

The new plan, with lower interest rate and longer term, might see more people pay back what they borrow.

My student debt creates more interest every year than I repay. I will never, ever pay back the 70k I owe.
