Please sign this as the current rules are unfair to single parent households, or households where one parent has decided to stay home with children.
Current rules mean that you could have a household earning double and receiving full benefit, whereas another household where only one parents earns is penalised.
This particularly is disadvantage to women.

What’s the issue with single parents, in your view? Are you arguing they should recieve a higher amount, or not have the same cutoff?

Imbluedabbadee · 29/03/2025 10:23

I think it should go on household income which would allow single parent households a higher threshold.

I take it you mean the cut off should be higher per household? i.e. £100k per household as apposed to £50k per person. As a single parent would be less likely to earn 100k than 50k?

It is not fair that a couple can have taxable income of 49k each and get child benefit, while another couple could have one earner with 51k taxable income and one with nil income and not be eligible.

Not sure a petition will change anything in the current political climate though.

All this scrambling for £20 a week. And then people complain when people with disabilities get extra money. If you earn that much you don’t need the child benefit. Save the benefits for people who need them.
