LassinSurrey · 28/07/2024 21:20

Many pet owners are struggling with the increased costs of pet food and vets bills.

the physical and mental benefits of pet ownership for adults and children are well documented.

many pet owners are resorting to abandoning their beloved pets. It is not fair.
please join us to ask government to provide tax relief for pet owners.

Thank you. I added link below to Change. org

Surprised no one else seems interested. I've signed. If nothing else, there should be a price cap on treatment. Vets are fleecing pet owners. They know the emotional bond means we'll pay. The emotional bond keeps me going, wake up every morning. Vets are pricing people out of pet ownership. We're supposed to be a nation of animal lovers. It's about time the government did something to support that.

A pet is a luxury, not a right. The "physical and mental benefits" you mention could be applied to almost anything: tax breaks for people who go to the gym, tax breaks for people who go on holiday, etc, etc, ad infinitum.

Sorry OP, you mean well but your reasoning doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

I've never heard of such a daft idea. Far too many people own pets. The country is overrun with dogs. I'd like to see the number of pets restricted to maximum of two dogs per household. Two cats as well.

Two children too

It should be the reverse. I love dogs but think owners should pay a license fee and it should be regulated. Too much dog shit everywhere. Luxury lifestyle choice.

This was posted a month or two back.

My response is the same as it was back then. Pets are a choice and a luxury (excluding guide dogs and genuine assistance animals). You want one you fund it.

There are a lot of other things that would be do wonders for people physical and emotional wellbeing that I would like to see funded before tax breaks for choosing to have pets.

As I said last time my health club membership is great for me physically and emotionally, should I get a tax break on that? Or a holiday to help relax, or a boat as sailing is great for both physical and emotional health.
