Petition - Another try to make child maintenance calculations fairer

Hi all,

I have found myself in a situation where my ex is a contractor with a limited company and is able to earn unlimited income but only needs to make a financial contribution to me for our boys based on the bare minimum he needs to draw as wages to cover his bills. The rest of his income sits untouched.

Despite a really lovely lifestyle he also chooses not to contribute sometimes also. He’s currently between contracts and is claiming benefits and that means he doesn’t have to contribute anything despite having savings built up.

If you’re stuck within the unfair child maintenance system would you please consider signing and sharing my petition?

Petition: Automatically consider all assets and income when calculating child maintenance

We want the Government to require the Child Maintenance Service to automatically consider all income and assets when calculating child maintenance payments. This should include rental income, interest and dividends, and shares and stocks.

signed - i'm sure this is part of the CMS consultation that's open at the moment so maybe pop your thoughts on there too?

Only 36 signatures? I despair. I don't understand why some petitions take off and others get ignored.

VickiHGlos · 27/10/2023 06:54

It’s early day and I do keep asking people to sign and share on Facebook/twitter.

I asked mumsnet, gingerbread and another well known message board for mums if they would back the petition but they are all silent. If you’d like to help promote or are able to share please do 🙂

After an incident a couple of weeks back my children are with me full time for now. It would be really helpful if dad contributed financially 😞

Thanks for this! For me I can’t believe the self employed loop hole there is! I know so many women whose exes are living the high life but the self employed loop hole means they pay almost as if they are on min wage…my sons dad, for example, has a big house, nice car, luxury holidays but only paid £15 a week cos his self employed tax returns showed he only pays himself a min wage ! Ludicrous. The poor poor children

Exactly this x

Any way you can share the petition, please do x

You could move it to another board for a wider audience

Thelnebriati · 05/11/2023 13:35

If you post a petition on another board, Mumsnet will move it here. But you can post a discussion and then say there's a petition on the Petitions and Activism board...

Thank you ❤️
