Neighbourhood Litter

I'm getting extremely concerned at the level of litter in my neighbourhood. There was an article about it in the local paper, and the Borough Council put out a defence statement saying what they were doing. I have observed alot of what they do, and they are doing it, to be fair, but it doesn't seem to be stopping the problem. Does anyone have any experience of mounting a pressure group on this problem in their locality? If so, what works and what doesn't?

Not just your neighbourhood, it’s the entire country.

drive along most A roads these days and the verges are full of litter - this country feels filthy.

It is really bad in my area. It is flat land, transient with the majority of people renting. This proportion has grown in recent years. Fast food outlets have grown disproportionately to other types of shops. Therefore, people may not feel a commitment to the area or their surroundings coupled with the capacity to create litter. A perfect storm.
